‘Mr. Deer’ in contention for best title at London Animation Fest

Mojtaba Mousavi’s ‘Mr. Deer’ is in the running at the 16th London International Animation Festival.

Mojtaba Mousavi’s stop-motion animation ‘Mr. Deer’ is currently in the running at the 16th edition of the London International Animation Festival (LIAF).

The 20-minute animation is vying at the competition program of one of the largest animation festivals in the world.

“People in this society have animal faces, they have forgotten humanity and ethics, and they do not avoid sins. Meanwhile, someone with a deer face is trying to reform the society,” offered as the synopsis of the piece.

Produced by Elaheh Farnia, ‘Mr. Deer’ previously received an award from the international competition section of the 36th Fajr Int'l Film Festival as well as Special Award of the 28th Zagreb Animation Festival (Animafest) in Croatia.

The list of top awards goes on with Best Short Film award at the 10th London Iranian Film Festival (UKIFF) in the UK as well as an award at the Skepto International Film Festival in Italy.

‘Mr. Deer’ has also gone on screen at a number of international film events before, including the 2018 Annecy Int’l Animation Film Festival in France, the 26th Anima Mundi Film Festival in Brazil, the 2018 Anibar Int’l Animation Festival in Kosovo, the 2018 Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival in France, the 48th Giffoni Film Festival in Italy, and the 2018 Melbourne Int’l Film Festival in Australia.

According to the event's official website, LIAF aims to “dispel the popular misconception that animation is just cartoons for kids by screening the broadest possible range of intelligent, entertaining and provocative current films on offer from all around the world”.

Founded in 2003, the annual 10-day Festival includes gala premieres, retrospectives, Q&A's with filmmakers, workshops, audience voting, and the Best of the Festival screening.

The screening event is currently underway in the British capital and will run until December 8, 2019.
